Dr. Lauren Sikorski, DVM, DACVIM

Dr. Sikorski completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania and has been practicing referral medicine since 2008. Her clinical interest and experience span all aspects of internal medicine.

While some internists prefer a particular field of study, Dr. Sikorski is thrilled by the challenge of reaching a difficult diagnosis with minimal diagnostics, whatever the subject. For many clients an affordable diagnosis and treatment plan are paramount, and far too often in veterinary medicine they are a matter of life and death. By working as a mobile clinician she can connect with many more patients and bring affordable medicine to your pet in the comfort of your local veterinary hospital.

She is Fear Free certified and takes patient comfort seriously: most of her patients are scanned without sedation, and some fall asleep on the cushion.

The road to veterinary medicine

Lauren grew up in Connecticut and attended Rollins College, where she earned a degree in English Literature with a minor in French. After college she worked on an environmental schooner, a sailboat dedicated to teaching environmental education to students of all ages.

Though her degree was in literature, having grown up on the rocky coast of Connecticut she was perfectly in tune with its critters and their habitats and could share that knowledge with ease. When the sailing season ended she moved on to the Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk as grant manager for “Girls in Science,” a program bringing science to girls in underserved Connecticut communities.

The gap between a literature degree and a clinical career is easily explained: severe childhood asthma and allergies meant Lauren never considered veterinary medicine. She was thrilled, and a little shocked, to discover she could be around pets without a sneeze or a wheeze. She had grown out of her allergies, and a new path opened.

Off duty

Dr. Sikorski lives in Oakdale, New York with her husband Chris, a sphynx cat named Raison d’être and a Kangal dog named Old Deuteronomy. When not catering to her sphynx she is an avid gardener and flower researcher, and recently started a cut-flower bouquet company, SOW Local.
